How are your employees handling the recent supreme court ruling?
It can be uncomfortable to discuss politics, personal health, and other touchy subjects at work. As a leader, you might be thinking, “What if I say the wrong thing” or “I don’t want to offend anyone”.
But here’s the thing – by standing on the sidelines and trying to pretend nothing’s happened, that’s exactly what you’re doing. Your employees need to know that you care about them, about their entire being, and that you are there to support them in any way that you can. That’s what we do when we are in relationships with one another – we care, support, and assist each other.
As a reminder, those relationships are necessary if you want your employees to bring you their best work. They are the “glue” that holds an organization together. So it is imperative that you build and maintain those relationships again and again, especially in times of hardship.
So in this time of extreme distress for many of your employees (it’s not just the women, btw), what will you do to demonstrate that you care? To support someone who might be struggling? To continue to build those precious relationships? Your career, and your employees well being, might well depend on it.
