Powerful Questions for Leaders, no. 37

What methods do you use to provide feedback to your staff and peers?

There is significant evidence that positive feedback is more successful than constructive feedback when is comes to improving team performance. In fact, according to Gottman, the magic ratio is 5:1, positive to negative.

5:1 seems like a high number to achieve given the natural tendencies of our brains to focus on the negative. It probably requires a disciplined, measured, and intentional approach, otherwise we are most certainly going to end up with the the ratio most associated with low-performing teams: 1:3 (one positive for every three negative)

So what do you do to ensure you are using positive feedback to its fullest potential? And what one thing might you start doing that will propel your ratio of positive to negative interactions closer to the magic ration of 5:1?
