Theme Song Thursdays: No Such Thing!

These days, its seems like the harder we try, the less we get. All our lives we were told, over and over (and over) again that if we just did things the right way, in the right order, success and happiness would follow.

Welcome to the real world
She said to me condescendingly
Take a seat, take your life
Plot it out in black and white

And maybe, if you’re old enough to remember Jem and Voltron, that worked … for a while. Maybe we did land a well-paying job, could afford the mortgage on a decent house, or to go on an occasional vacation. But if you’re like most of us, it’s been a while since you felt comfortable with the balance in your bank account.

They love to tell you
Stay inside the lines
But something’s better
On the other side

It kind of makes you wonder why we’re still out here following the rules. If you’re employed you’re probably pretending to agree with the pointy-haired boss in the valiant but misguided hope that your annual cost-of living raise will cover the cost of your health insurance increase. And if you’re not working, you probably painstakingly customizing resumes and cover letters only to upload them into the ether to compete with the bots, never to be heard from again.

I wanna run through the halls of my high school
I wanna scream at the top of my lungs
I just found out there’s no such thing as the real world
Just a lie you’ve got to rise above

Maybe it’s time for a fresh start. Maybe we should throw out all the “shoulds” and instead bring on board a couple of “wants”. Because doing it the way “they” say we should is not really proving to be in our best interest.

They read all the books but they can’t find the answers
And all of our parents, they’re getting older
I wonder if they’ve wished for anything better
While in their memories tiny tragedies

So what do you want to do? No, I mean like really want, desire, or crave? You’ve probably been burying that part of you down so deep in the pit of your stomach for so long that you can’t even remember. But it’s in there if you would just give it a chance to rise to the surface.

Well, I never lived the dream of the prom kings
And the drama queens
I’d like to think the best of me
Is still hiding up my sleeve

What’s still up your sleeve? And when will you unveil it for the world to see? We can’t wait to see what you’ll do. Because life is so much better “on the other side of the line”.

I just can’t wait ’til my ten year reunion
I’m gonna bust down the double doors
And when I stand on these tables before you
You will know what all this time was for

If you’re ready to reclaim your true purpose, to put it on display for the world to see, I want to work with you. Let’s scribble your magic all over the page. You’re worth it.
