It’s a rainy Tuesday before Thanksgiving here in Ohio. And all around us, people are struggling. Many are laid off, unemployed for a year or more, while everything from groceries to gasoline to housing and health insurance is becoming more and more expensive. Still others are feeling lonely, isolated, and dejected as real human interaction becomes harder and harder to find and make.
But there are bright spots on the horizon if we’ll just look up from our phones and open our hearts wide enough to let them in.
Somewhere over the rainbow
Way up high
There’s a land that I heard of
Once in a lullaby
Because underneath the plastic, smiley facades we’re all posting on our socials, there are real human beings, vulnerable, but hopeful, and yearning for connection.
Somewhere over the rainbow
Skies are blue
And the dreams that you dare to dream
Really do come true
You see, try as we might, human beings just can’t survive, let alone thrive without each other. We literally NEED other people in our lives to help us reach our true potential, live our best lives, and reach the heights we never imagined we could reach but were destined for nonetheless.
Someday I’ll wish upon a star
And wake up where the clouds are far behind me
Where troubles melt like lemon drops
Away above the chimney tops
That’s where you’ll find me
I really do believe that one day, hopefully soon, we will all come to our senses, stop the charade of the strong, powerful, and singular being, and just get real with one another.
Somewhere over the rainbow
Bluebirds fly
Birds fly over the rainbow
Why, then, oh, why can’t I?
And when we do, there will be no stopping us. Because we are uniquely qualified to solve the worlds problems, but we can’t do it if we don’t decide to come together as a single, aligned entity, all moving in the same direction to create something bigger than ourselves, something that lifts us all up instead of tearing it all down.
If happy little bluebirds fly
Beyond the rainbow
Why, oh, why can’t I?
So who’s with me? Let’s get out there and form genuine human bonds, centered around the real societal problems that we’re all facing but that we’re too ashamed or embarrassed to admit. Because I don’t know about you, but that’s the world I want to live in. One where we show up for each other with grace and empathy and compassion. Where we put our skills to work helping each other live fuller, more complete lives.
If you’re ready to connect on a real, human level, I want to work with you. Let’s build something better. Let’s do it together.
