Theme Song Thursdays: Some Day at Christmas (Holiday Edition)

Some days I wonder what we’re doing. Running from task to task, chasing the next big thing, no time to be thoughtful, only the relentless press to go, go, go.

Someday at Christmas men won’t be boys
Playing with bombs like kids play with toys
One warm December our hearts will see
A world where men are free

For a while, this felt like it was sort of working. Sure, we were exhausted and our kids were more or less raising themselves, but we had enough money to feel like we could pay the bills, keep a roof over our heads and food in the refrigerator.

Someday at Christmas there’ll be no wars
When we have learned what Christmas is for
When we have found what life’s really worth
There’ll be peace on earth

But somewhere along the line, things seem to have taken a dark turn. These days we’re still running ourselves ragged, but now we’ve also lost the lone thing that kept us pushing – our financial security.

Someday all our dreams will come to be
Someday in a world where men are free
Maybe not in time for you and me
But someday at Christmastime

As prices continue to rise, our paychecks are stagnant at best. Most of us are actually making less money than we once did thanks to a shrinking job market that has left many of us underemployed or even unemployed for extended periods of time.

Someday at Christmas we’ll see a land
With no hungry children, no empty hand
One happy morning people will share
A world where people care

It makes me stop and think … when I was little, dreaming of being a grown up, what did I imagine? I don’t know about you, but I did not dream of being under the thumb of big business.

Whoa, someday at Christmas there’ll be no tears
When all men are equal and no man has fears
One shinning moment one prayer away
From our world today

I imagined a world where I was free to make good decisions for myself and my family, to do work that engaged me, filled me with a sense of purpose, and allowed me to contribute meaningfully to my community.

Someday all our dreams will come to be
Someday in a world where men are free
Maybe not in time for you and me
But someday at Christmastime

I imagined having free time to explore my interests and to grow as a complete, well-rounded human being, of spending quality time with my family and friends where we all worked together to make each other better stronger, more successful.

Someday at Christmas man will not fail
Hate will be gone and love will prevail
Someday a new world that we can start
With hope in every heart, yeah

What did you dream of when you were a child? And how well does it match up with your current reality? Perhaps the way we’re living and working is not really serving us in the ways that we hoped. And perhaps its time for change. If you’re ready, I am too. Let’s build something better. Let’s do it together.

whoa, yeah
(Someday in a world where men are free)
Maybe not in time for you and me
But someday at Christmastime
Someday at Christmastime
