This week in Davos we’re watching in real time as a handful of the world’s leaders attempt to rewrite reality. They are spinning a tale where the world functions most effectively when we’re fractured, divided, and fighting, a world where corrupt strongmen take it all and where the rest of us fight with each other over the scraps that remain.
Color me any color
Speak to me in tongues and share
Tell me how you’d love to hate me
Tell me how you’d love to care
Well I just want to shake us up
But we know better. Don’t we? It’s true that they’ve been attempting to condition us through sensationalized “news” and angry rhetoric for decades. They’re trying to convince us that we’re better of isolated, going it alone, and distrustful of everyone around us. But we can all remember those “good ole’ days” when we worked together toward common goals to lift each other up and to build systems that made us all stronger, more successful, more resilient. Right?
Uh-huh, uh-huh, uh-huh
Let’s mingle
Uh-huh, uh-huh, uh-huh
And make it well
Uh-huh, uh-huh, uh-huh
Come together now
Uh-huh, uh-huh, uh-huh
Yeah let’s gel
We know better than to trust the wolf in sheep’s clothing, the carpet bagger, or the sake oil salesman. Whether they lead our religious organizations, our corporations, or our political parties, we know them when we see them. And we know what they’re up to.
Clothe me in any fashion
Glitter to so mundane
Tell me how you’d love to change me
Tell me I can stay the same
I just want to shake us up
So let’s not be fooled by the loud, angry, and flashy rhetoric and actions. Let’s stay the course, and get back to our roots, where we trusted and supported each other, where we collaborated to create communities that benefited one and all.
Uh-huh, uh-huh, uh-huh
Let’s mingle
Uh-huh, uh-huh, uh-huh
And make it well
Uh-huh, uh-huh, uh-huh
Come together now
Uh-huh, uh-huh, uh-huh
Yeah let’s gelWell let’s bungle
And live to tell
How we came together
Yeah, how we gelled
Who’s ready to step out of the crowd and make an effort to recreate the world we used to know? Let’s do it now, before it’s too late. Let’s build something better. Let’s do it together.
