Greater Cleveland Partnership’s Culture Matters Conference: Big Value in a Small Package

I had a great time facilitating the action planning sessions at the Greater Cleveland Partnership’s Culture Matters conference last week. Along the way I also met some amazing people working to improve outcomes for organizations all across Northeast Ohio and in a diverse number of industries. I also learned some important data about employee retention in our region.

For example, did you know that across a broad range of industries in our region, 25-32% of employees will be of retirement age in the next five years? Meanwhile, a full 66% of the employees we hire leave of their own accord (for every THREE employees we hire only ONE stays!) and most of those losses could have been mitigated by their employer. It seems that we are in a vicious cycle of hiring, losing, and then hiring employees again. As the panel advised us, “Retention matters as much as recruitment.”

During the action planning sessions, we worked through the results of the attendees Culture 360 Self-Assessments, considered the themes discussed throughout the day, and then made plans to make real change in their workplaces. The teams and individuals I worked with walked away with outcome-based goals, measurable definitions of success, and action plans to implement. I can’t wait to see the positive impacts they each have in their organizations.

All in all, I really enjoyed myself at this brief, yet impactful event. I’m definitely planning to attend again next year.
